Laura and Donald Fraser married in the stunning Sherbrooke Castle Hotel in Pollockshields. The baronial house is surrounded by lush greenery and is internally quintessentially Scottish with tartan carpets and furnishings.
The best kind of weddings are those that are fun from beginning to end. From the proposal to the final dance of the evening. For Laura and Donald, this was certainly the case. Laura said that in hindsight, they loved every step of the planning process (even if they’re in no hurry to do it again!) but especially looking at various venues and choosing dresses for their flower girls who “stole the show”.
Wearing Harlem Blue by Enzoani from Anne Priscilla Bridal in Glasgow, Laura was the perfect blushing bride. Although she hadn’t initially been looking forward to wedding dress shopping, once she tried on the Harlem Blue and saw her friend Rosie reduced to tears, she knew she’d found The One.
Husband Donald wore an Ancient Hunting Fraser kilt, complemented by an Oban Tweed jacket and waistcoat, black shirt and a navy blue cravat. This family tartan look was finished off with an Antique Stag Brooch.
Although weddings are, of course, all about the couple, the day is a family affair. Laura and Donald kept this close to their hearts when they choose the Sherbrooke Castle Hotel and, on the night of the wedding, the castle was filled with only their loved ones!
As for surprises on the day…
Donald fell into the trap of forgetting a small part of his outfit; cufflinks! Fortunately, MacGregor and MacDuff were on hand to provide last-minute cufflinks and to attach his plaid.
Laura’s surprise was not quite as common… As she stood up from the evening dinner, she realised there was a wasp climbing up the inside of her dress…! Fortunately her bridesmaids saved the day and Laura escaped without being stung!
Keen to ensure that their day was as traditionally Scottish as possible, the couple had both of their family tartans stitched together into a handfasting ribbon and Laura wore a Muted Ancient Hunting Fraser tartan shawl in the evening.
The groomsmen wore Scotland Forever kilts with Oban Tweed jackets and waistcoats. This look was completed with charcoal socks, black shirts and navy cravats.
Finally, for couples who are getting married soon, Laura and Donald have just two pieces of advice:
Take a second to breathe it all in. People will tell you how it’ll fly in and the day will go by you so quickly. It does. Like you wouldn’t believe. You get so overwhelmed and caught up in everything that it flies by. If possible, have your day filmed. We regret not doing this!
