Handfasting is an ancient Celtic tradition and is where the phrase “tying the knot” comes from. It involves the tying together of a couples hands with a piece of tartan, cloth or ribbon during the ceremony to represent the union of two people in a marriage. This tradition is often used at humanist weddings.
