MacGregor and MacDuff have been kiltmakers for over quarter of a century,
trading from four kilt shops, in Glasgow City Centre, Glasgow's West End
(2) and Prestwick, Ayrshire.
We specialise in both kilt hire and kilt sales and, between our four branches, our dedicated staff will do whatever is necessary to accommodate your Scottish Highland Dress needs.
Whether you choose to hire an outfit or if you want our kiltmakers to make you a handmade, made-to-measure highland outfit, there is plenty of choice available and there will always be someone on hand to advise you.
We have been involved in Scottish Highland Dress Wear for 26 years. All of our kilts are made from either a 13 oz medium weight or 16 oz heavy weight worsted cloth, which enables the pleats to stay as sharp as possible and ensures the kilt, has a full "swing".
Made from 100% worsted wool, all our kilts are made from a full 8 yards of material. We offer two different forms of kiltmaking. The first way is made to measure. Every part of this kilt is made by hand apart from the pleating, which is finished by machine. This form of kiltmaking has become widely used around Scotland due to the decreasing number of traditional kiltmakers who can make fully handmade kilts. The second way is to have the kilt fully made by hand, including the pleating. We have 5 of our own traditional kiltmakers and can therefore, still offer a fully handmade kilt. It is predicted that within a few years, a fully handmade kilt will be very hard to purchase, so this is a very sought after tradition.
Most of our kilts are pleated to the "sett", which means that the pattern of the kilt is repeated at the back to mirror the front. Some of our tartans are however pleated to the line where a predominant stripe is chosen to run down each pleat.
It usually takes around four to six weeks for a kilt to be made and between eight to ten weeks for a full Highland Outfit to be supplied.
Whilst we are making your new purchase, we are able to supply you with free of charge Hire Outfits for any occasions that you may attend during the period.
